Remembering Norah Lee Allen: A Musical Legacy of Love and Faith

The Oak Ridge Boys are saddened by the passing of Norah Lee Allen, wife of lead singer Duane Allen, who peacefully departed at 7:28 am CT on Sunday, March 31st, following a prolonged illness. Norah Lee, aged 76, leaves behind a legacy of love and music.

Duane Allen shared the news with close friends, expressing, “This morning, my wife of 54 years and 8 months took her last breath on planet Earth.” Norah Lee transitioned on Easter morning, surrounded by her family at Vanderbilt Hospital, where they spent the night singing, sharing stories, and cherishing every moment.

Duane, along with Jamie and Dee, extends gratitude for the outpouring of love and prayers during Norah Lee’s nine-week bedside vigil. Norah Lee graced the Grand Ole Opry stage for over 40 years, lending her majestic voice to country music’s biggest names. Raised in Bowling Green, Kentucky, she began her musical journey with The Stuart Sisters Trio at age three, later joining the Chuck Wagon Gang in 1968.

In 1969, Norah Lee married Duane Allen, marking the start of a remarkable partnership. She flourished in Nashville, contributing her versatile vocals to various projects, including sessions with Jerome Hines and Conway Twitty. By 1980, Norah Lee became a full-time member of the Grand Ole Opry band, captivating audiences worldwide.

Despite her illustrious career, Norah Lee remained devoted to her family, including her husband, two children, and four grandchildren. She performed alongside country music legends like Dolly Parton, Johnny Cash, and Loretta Lynn, leaving an indelible mark on the industry.
