The show that the Broadway community is raving about has finally made its way to the Wharton Center in East Lansing. Funny Girl, the Broadway musical comedy took its first bow tonight at the Cobb Great Hall located on the Michigan State University campus.

The Broadway revival, which originally starred Glee alum Lea Michelle, opened on Tuesday to a nearly sold-out show. The musical follows the story of Fanny Brice and her rise to stardom during the 1920s. With music by Julie Styne and the revised book by Tony Award winning actor Harvey Firestein, Funny Girl originally returned to Broadway in April of 2022 to rave reviews.

Starring as Fanny in the US tour, Katerina McCrimmon brings the famed vaudeville comedienne to life giving the audience nonstop entertainment with her quick wit and personality. McCrimmon, makes her Broadway tour premiere with ‘Funny Girl’. With her stage presence, strong belting voice, and personality I predict that she will be a name that will be on everyone’s lips very soon-if not already. Playing Fanny’s choreographer and cheerleader, Eddy Ryan, Izaiah Montaque Harris, wowed the audience with his staggering tap skills. There is definite lack of talent as the entire company kept the audience enthralled throughout the entire production.

Funny Girl continues at the Wharton Center through Sunday February 11th. Tickets start at $39 and can be purchased from the Wharton Center website at www.whartoncenter.com.
