Broadway’s ‘Mama Mia’ Returns to the Wharton Center

The smash hit musical ‘MAMMA MIA’ is returning to East Lansing’s Wharton Center in January for its 25th anniversary tour.

Set in the beautiful escape paradise of the Greek Isles, the global phenomenon musical centers around a bride, her mother, and three possible dads. The timeless music of ABBA lends the musical fingerprint to the show. The show premiered on Broadway in 2001 after its original premiere in London in 1999 and became an instant smash hit worldwide. The toured North America from 2000-2017 with four different touring companies.

MAMMA MIA! was made into a successful movie in 2008, becoming the highest grossing live action musical of all time. The movie’s sequel, ‘MAMMA MIA! Here We Go Again opened in July 2018 and became the most successful live movie musical sequel of all time. The two films starred Christine Baranski, Meryl Streep, Colin Firth, Amanda Seyfried, with the iconic superstar, Cher, appearing in the movie’s sequel.
